Ava stared at Mark with her jaw slackened. When he had initially reached for his belt, she had assumed he was caving, giving in. But the man had wrapped the belt around his palm in a way that made her chill to the bone, and he was glaring at her like he wanted to fuck her brains out.

Confusion and fear made her throat knot. “Mark?”

He tilted his head toward the rug. “Get down.”

“Mark!” she cried louder, her eyes apprehensive.

Ava yelled but didn’t run, and Mark hit her again, the harsh snap sounding through the room repeatedly.
